ContempraDance School offers ballet for teens interested in learning ballet for enjoyment and fitness as well as for serious dance students interested in pursuing professional dance.
Ballet for Teens
Intro to Ballet- This is a perfect beginner class for teens who have had no experience in ballet or a limited amount of experience (0-2 years). Class teaches ballet terminology, focusing on barre work, basic center floor exercises and across the floor exercises. Students learn proper body alignment and placement at the barre as well as center floor.
Teen/Adult Ballet - Designed for adults and teens (ages 14+ only) this class will teach the fundamentals of ballet- a dance style you have always wanted to learn! Class focuses on barre work to develop strength, moves to center floor work teaching positions of the body, and introduces students to ballet dance steps-broken down to simplest form. With commitment from students, this class will prepare students to move into higher levels of ballet class at ContempraDance. Class is offered on Tuesday at 7:45 and Friday at 6:45 for beginner students. Our Saturday 11am class is an open level and is more challenging.
Ballet 2 This class is for ages 11-14 with at least 2 years of previous ballet training. Students focus on perfecting technique and preparation for intermediate class. While it is not required, we recommend taking 2 ballet classes a week at this level, especially for later placement in ballet 3.
Ballet 3 - This class is for ages 11-15 and up with at least 4 years of previous ballet training. Students focus on perfecting more intricate ballet moves, adding speed and complexity into their routines. This is an Intermediate/Advanced level class. Students enrolling in Ballet 3 are required to take at least one additional ballet class each week.
Ballet 4 - This class is for ages 14 and up with at least 4 years of previous ballet training. Students focus on perfecting more intricate ballet moves, adding speed and complexity into their routines. This is an Intermediate/Advanced level class. Students enrolling in Ballet 4 are required to take at least one additional ballet class each week.
ContempraDance School offers Pointe lessons for students who wish to pursue ballet further. Pointe work is offered as an option after our pre-intermediate and intermediate classes. Teacher and director permission is required to enroll in Pointe class. Two ballet classes a week at ContempraDance School is required to take Pointe lessons. We recommend that younger students who may wish to pursue Pointe work in the future begin taking 2 ballet classes a week at least a year prior to beginning Pointe lessons. Pointe work is not recommended at ContempraDance School for students under the age of 11, however with teacher permission it may be allowed.
